How Akufo Addo, The President That Promised Tax Cutting Became A Multiple Tax Creator

During the swearing ceremony of President Nana Akufo Addo, he made two significant promises. Firstly, to cut taxes to boost the economy secondly, to protect the public’s purse.

In Ghana, we have been Christians and Muslims all our lives but one important issue is how many of us take the Bible and the Koran seriously?

The truth is that nobody can mock the Bible or the Koran without paying for it. Take it as a joke, you’ll pay heavily for swearing on the Bible and Koran, after doing the opposite.

After declaring the NDC leader corrupt, Akufo-Addo defeated incumbent John Dramani Mahama in peaceful elections, giving him the opportunity he has been looking for in his lifetime to become the president of Ghana.

It is very obvious that during the time he was struggling to become the president, he promised God to build a Cathedral to praise His name, thus; the building of that project became Akufo Addo’s focus after winning the presidential race.

For almost a year, the building of the Cathedral was the controversy making headlines in Ghanaian papers, without a slight knowledge to tackle the people’s needs by providing jobs and social amenities.

Akufo Addo made many promises which were never fulfilled and to please the NPP politicians, he created a sort of family government and a weak judiciary system which made corruption flourish in his government with impunity.

By the time Akufo Addo became alert in his second to the third year in office, the unemployment rate has increased, crime has taken over the country and huge amounts of the taxpayers’ money had been wasted.

Instead of accepting responsibility, he rather deceives Ghanaians he is against corruption, while the media and those once against Mahama were giving him the support he needs to run a corrupt government.

Since he can’t stand criticism, he descended heavily on the media with all kinds of strategies to keep them silent.

In my life, I have never seen such kind of a nepotic Ghanaian leader full of hate against other Ghanaian leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah and John Mahama.

In the fourth year of Akufo Addo, despite all the empty promises, he abandoned all the uncompleted projects left by the NDC government.

Every persuasion and advice to the president to take over those projects failed even though till today, despite the huge debt he has incurred on Ghana, he hasn’t any significant projects to boast of.

The president’s weak leadership has brought untold hardships to the common people and has collapsed the state both politically and economically.

Corruption has increased significantly, affecting the country’s infrastructures, including the ports, where broad daylight robbery and crimes take place daily.

The extravagant lifestyle of the president has forced him to introduce more draconian taxes at the expense of the common suffering people, yet Akufo Addo has the guts to say that he is not responsible for the country’s economic and political disasters.

In any developing country, Akufo Addo shouldn’t be allowed to rule a country but in Ghana, it is possible.

The fact which no one can sweep under the carpet is that the hardship Ghanaians have experienced under his leadership, is just the tip of the iceberg. Things will be tougher and uglier after 2021.
